Laser promoters compare laser to electrolysis although laser assisted hair removal is considered a temporary method or semi reduction . It has not been evaluated for long-term safety of the patient’s skin and health.
Shaving, waxing, tweezing and depilatories are ONLY TEMPORARY methods of hair removal, can actually stimulate further hair growth, cause in-grown hairs, coarser hair and can also distort the hair follicle, making it more difficult to treat. In addition, over the course of a life-time, these methods may actually end up costing you more in time and money.
Most areas of the body can be treated with hair electrolysis, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, chest, and legs. No other solution claims such universal acceptability and success.
The FDA and the American Medical Association categorize laser as permanent hair REDUCTION, while Electrolysis is permanent hair REMOVAL. See how Electrolysis compares to other hair removal methods below.
Excessive hair growth, known as hirsutism can range from fine, vellus hair to dark, coarse hair on the face and body. Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment; thus, breaking down the hair growth cells may require additional treatments. Based on a personal and confidential consultation, your electrologist will design a treatment plan that addresses your specific hair removal needs.
Permanent hair removal using electrolysis has come a long way since its beginnings in 1875. Today’s computer technology enables the electrologist to work with more speed and comfort. Epilators are much quicker, utilizing current timings of thousandths of a second over the longer current applications of the past, plus, intensity settings can now be modulated to varying proportions. The instruments and equipment used in a contemporary electrologist’s office are just part of the changes that have occurred in the electrolysis industry.
Before treatment
Medical History Assessment
You will be asked to complete a client health history assessment form » at your first appointment. Please be honest. RBE is a safe place and all your information is protected!
DURING TREATMENT – WHAT TO EXPECT
Health Standards
You will always be treated in a clean and sanitized environment.
You will receive a new and sterile probe at the start of every appointment that will serve specifically for your health conditions, hair type and pain threshold. Each probe will be discarded after the session.
Positioning
Your electrologist may ask for your assistance with pulling and stretching your skin depending on the location of the treatment area and the elasticity of your skin. You may also be repositioned several times to help make the treatment area more accessible.
You are RECOMMENDED to:-
Relax + Distract
Try to get as comfortable as possible during your treatment.
Keep yourself distracted. Try meditation or engaging in a conversation with your electrologist.
Tough It Out
Work as close to your pain threshold as possible to get the most effective treatment. You will also begin to build up a tolerance making future visits less uncomfortable.
WHAT TO EXPECT immediately after treatment
Redness, Swelling, Scabbing + Possible Bruising
The post-treatment sensation feels similar to a sunburn. Your electrologist will apply witch hazel & aloe vera at the end of your session but you can ask about other post-treatment options that may be appropriate for you.
After Care
Do
Soothe & Sterilize – Use witch hazel, diluted tea tree oil, or aloe vera to soothe & sterilize the area.
Reduce Inflammation – Apply a cold compress to minimize swelling.
Schedule Your Next Appointment -Make sure you get the time-slot that works best for your lifestyle.
Don’t
Increase Risk of infection – Avoid rubbing, scratching, and over-touching the treated area within the first 24-hours post-treatment.
Sun + Swim –Stay out of the sun for 72-hours to avoid pigment spots. If you will be in the sun, be sure to use a sunscreen with a minimum of 30-SPF.
Avoid chlorine for 48-hrs
Alcohol Based Products – Refrain from using products like perfume immediately following treatment. Isopropyl alcohol burns and can irritate the treated area because the pores are open.
Remove Scabs –It’s normal for scabs to form after electrolysis, so it’s important to never pick them. Removing a scab prematurely can cause scars and increase chances of infection.
Clog Pores- Refrain from applying make-up, deodorants or any other products that may clog the pores of the treated area.
Wax, Tweeze, Thread or Sugar
If you must remove your hair between appointments, then shave, clip or use a depilatory cream.
Remember, if you bleach in between appointments, make sure there is enough time for your hair to grow back in so your electrologist can see your roots {approx 1/16” to 1/8”}.
Sweat Excessively
Engagement in activities that cause excessive sweating, like working-out or sitting in a sauna, immediately after treatment can trigger a build-up of bacteria and cause infection.

Are you tweezing?
Please stop now. This temporary measure will make hairs stronger and prevent me from seeing the full picture.
Here is a formula to determine the amount of time you will need for your electrolysis treatment:
Number of Minutes Spent Tweezing Daily * 7 (days of the week) = the approximate number of minutes needed to treat the area one week after you have stopped tweezing. If tweezing weekly, you may figure the amount of time spent tweezing weekly times the number of weeks since you stopped doing so.
Subsequent to the first appointment, daily tweezers can expect to have at least 2 months of weekly treatments for this many minutes before reducing the length of your treatment. Consistent treatments will hasten the completion of your treatments. Hair follicles are best treated when the hair is in the early growing stage. As time goes on, treatments will diminish along with your hair.
Are you currently shaving?
Contrary to what you may have heard, shaving is totally acceptable. Shaving merely blunts off the fine little tip that every new hair grows in with. The hair continues to grow and so the next day you feel the full shaft of the hair. You have done nothing at the root end to strengthen the hair (unlike tweezing, threading and waxing). PLEASE ALLOW AT LEAST 24 HOURS (48 HOURS IS PREFERABLE) OF HAIR GROWTH BEFORE YOUR ELECTROLYSIS TREATMENT. You may be requested to allow several days of growth for finer hair as these hairs grow slower than coarse ones.
